Proposed Engineering Societies' Headquarters: Illinois Institute of Technology of Chicago has proposed that four national engineering societies construct an impressive but economical building, such as the sketch above, on the five-acre city block offered free by the school as the site for the societies' headquarters. The building would match the architectural style of the Illinois Tech campus, known as Technology Center, and could be built for about $2,500,000. The design of the building and Technology Center is the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, world famous architect and director of the Illinois Tech architecture department. The societies are the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, American Institute of Electrical Engineers and American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers.
