Fine (F) to extra fine (XF). Details, lettering, date and images all discernable. Almost Full Bell Lines (FBL) visible of reverse with distinctive “crack” in Liberty Bell evident. Mintage: 9,475,200 (Denver) Obverse: A large bust of Benjamin Franklin, facing right, with the words LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST around the periphery. The date appear to the right of Franklin's neck. Reverse: The Liberty bell is prominently featured with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR around the periphery. The motto, E PLURIBUS UNUM is left of the bell, with a eagle -- wings fully spread -- to the right. The mint mark appears centered just above the bell. Special Notes: The Franklin halves with Full Bell Lines, commonly abbreviated “FBL” in the numismatic lexicon. The FBL Franklin Half Dollars are among the most coveted, as they represent the best, fullest strike – something that relatively few Franklin business-strikes exhibit. It’s tough to find a business-strike Franklin Half Dollar with complete details, including the horizontal lines near the base of the Liberty Bell visage on the reverse. To qualify for this designation, a coin must also show no major disturbances, including cuts and marks, of the separation of the bell lines. Comments: The “Bugs Bunny” version has all the usual features except that there is a buck tooth-like appearance on Franklin's portrait. The error occurred when the eagle's wings on the reverse die “impressed the obverse die in the region of Franklin's mouth,” resulting in a spike that suggests buck teeth. See closeup photos with identifying arrows. Description: This is for the actual coin pictured. Beautiful natural toning is present, the coin has a nice luster to it and the “Bugs Bunny” version with almost full bell lines (FBL) makes it exceptionally unique. Struck in 90% silver, the Franklin half dollars of 1948-63 feature only the fourth real person to be depicted on a regular-issue U.S. coin - following Presidents Lincoln (cent), Washington (quarter) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (dime). Benjamin Franklin contributed greatly to the welfare of the original colonies and the birth of the nation. He was also legendary for his scientific experiments and numerous inventions. Please follow our eBay site frequently as we continually add a variety of interesting vintage collectibles.
