It is a collection of stories, and includes ‘A Christmas Carol’, ‘The Chimes’, ‘The Cricket on the Hearth’, ‘The Battle of Life’, and ‘The Haunted Man And The Ghost’s Bargain’. There are also top-edge gilt pages and a ribbon inside, which would have been intended as a bookmark. This is a neat and clean copy of this book for its age. It was first printed by Macmillan & Co., in 1892 and this is a 1928 reprint. It is part of the series “The Works of Charles Dickens”. ‘A Christmas Carol’ was first published in 1843 and is the classic story of Scrooge. This was followed by ‘The Chimes’ in 1844, ‘The Cricket on the Hearth’ in 1845, ‘The Battle of Life’ in 1846, and lastly, ‘The Haunted Man’ in 1848. There is no dust jacket. The blue limp leather-bound cover has beautiful gilt stamp lettering and decorations on the spine and embossed borders on the boards. The boards and spine are intact and robust, and in a good condition for nearly 100 years old. There is some wear to the cover, including very soft bumping to the corners, light rubbing at the edges and corners, a couple of small holes in the leather in the front board, small rips at the top of the spine, several light or small marks, light scratches, and a crease in the spine. Please refer to the photographs for further details. Inside, the pages are bright for their age, and just very lightly tanned. The pages are overall very neat and clean, and predominantly uncreased. There are just small creases or very small marks on a few pages. There are no rips to the pages. On the back free endpaper there is a very small ink stamp (see photo). However, there are no further pen or pencil marks written inside this book. Between just a few pages there is a light crack in the gutter. However, all the pages are all secure. There are no missing pages. All 412 pages are present, plus 4 pages at the rear containing the publisher’s catalogue. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 19 cm by 13 cm and 2.8 cm wide. It weighs approximately 517 grams. Charles Dickens was one of the most renowned and influential authors of the Victorian era.
