Description: Liberty Head Peace Silver Dollar Peace Silver Dollars were struck in 26.73 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver and measure 38.1mm in diameter. The Peace Dollar is a true American symbol of peace. The designer Anthony De Francisci's obverse presents Lady Liberty wearing a crown of rays, like that on the Statue of Liberty. The reverse features an eagle holding the olive branches of peace, rather than the typical olive branches and arrows of war. The Peace Dollar was America’s last circulating dollar coin series struck entirely in silver. Because peace dollars were placed directly into circulation most Peace Silver Dollars are heavily worn. In addition, hundreds of thousands of these coins were melted during the “Great Melting Pot” of 1980 when silver hit $50 an ounce in 1980. This greatly decreased the known number of surviving Peace Dollars.
