1920s American Brilliant Cut Glass Crystal Pitcher Set w 6 Glasses ABCG Hobstar

Description: This is a beautiful American Brilliant Era (1876 - 1920+) cut glass beverage set, only the finest homes of the time would have one of these, they were expensive when new. Gorgeous clear cut crystal the set includes a water pitcher with 6 matching tumbler type glasses. Brilliant cut glass refers to the high mineral content in the glass, as high or higher than crystal which gives the glass it brilliant sparkle. This era was typified by elaborate hand cut patterns (using various types and sizes of wheels) on crystal bIanks, these pieces are NOT pressed, pressed pieces were the lower cost imitation of these pieces. Each of those cuts are then polished to give them their sparkle. I have not been able to identify this pattern (there were many glass manufacturers and many missing reference catalogs) but one expert told me it is probably Quaker City Glass, mid to late period, 1900 – 1919. They made cut glass in Philadelphia, 1901 - 1924. The design features 12 pointed hobstars surrounded by buzzsaw cuts, crosshatch cuts, fan cuts with zipper cuts under the spout rim. It is unusual to find a complete tumbler set in undamaged condition. The glasses alone can sell for $50 each. This is a large heavy set, weighing 11 lbs. in total. A beautiful display piece which can be used functionally as well. Size: Pitcher 8.75″ h x 9″w, including handle, base is 6.5″w. Blank is 1/4+″ thick. Glasses: 3.75″h x 3″w Condition*: Excellent condition, there are a few fleabite chips around the base bottom edge and there are several spots where there are cross cuts.
