Description: 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel, Graded MS64 (9.4) by NGC. This coin released in the Vaultbox series. 1913 was the first year of production for the “Indian Head” aka “Buffalo” Nickel. Designed by famous engraver James Earle Fraser, the Buffalo Nickel is one of the most recognized and popular 20th century American coins readily available. This specific piece was minted in Philadelphia, and with a mintage of 30,922,000, this marked the beginning of a 25 year run up into 1938.The reverse design was soon changed due to the issue of rapid wear. A line was later added that year to the reverse above “FIVE CENTS” to prevent the designation from wearing away as fast.
