The narrative is an account of a military expedition led by Younghusband to open Tibet to British trade. The author accompanied the expedition as a special correspondent for the London Times, so he gives a journalist's view of the march, as well as insight into the people and culture. Color frontispiece illustration with tissue guard, 52 plates from photographs, mostly full page. Large, thick, heavy hardcover, bound in green cloth with a swastika on the front cover, gilt titles on the spine. 7.25x10.5 inches, 484 pages. Good condition, tiny nick to back cover, endpapers browned, signature of former owner and date of 1929 on the front cover, plus two Chinese stamps in red. Front hinge a little fragile. A couple very light spots to cover. Laid in is a 2018 article on someone who was an officer with the expedition. Classic book on Tibet.
