Description: A very cool and very rare piece of American naval history. A leather bucket from the Washington Navy Yard. The yard has a long and storied history that I highly recommend reading about. This bucket was pressed into service their in 1901 according to the impressed mark on the bottom of the bucket. It could have one or two main purposes. One as a fire fighting bucket for the yards fire department, or for transporting gun power to weapons. It likely had a leather covered rope handle at some point. If used for powder it may have had a lid. It was part of a fire fighting and naval estate collection. Condition is good for its age. No major damage. Some peeling to surface but I think that’s to be expected. Approximately 11” tall and 9” across top. Only a few of these have ever turned up in the modern era according to internet search results. Three that I could find actually, this will be the fourth. A fantastic display piece for the lover of USN and/or fire fighting history. Ships ASAP! Thanks
