Description: ca 1873 Liebig Trade Card S42 Cadets Eating - French - Series Children III Offered for sale is a Liebig Meat Extract trade card from a series on the ballet "Sport," 1898, in French, from a six-card set (S574). This card is #2, and was printed in Antwerp, Belgium. It shows a scene from the ballet representing the Longchamps Racecourse in Paris, which opened about 1857. "Sport" was more of a theatrical extravaganza than a ballet. The dancers wore normal dress rather than tights and tutus. It was first performed at La Scala, Milan, Italy, in 1897. Luigi Manzotti (1835-1905) was the choreographer and Romualdo Marenco (1841-1907) wrote the music. The costume designer was A. Edel. Please enlarge pictures for best view of condition. Card measures about 4.5 by 2.75 inches (11.25 x 7 cm.).
