Description: Up for sale is a book, "The Army of the Cumberland" by Henry M. Cist. Published in 1882 by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York. Seven maps, the first map folds out and has a tear along the crease. The origin of the Army of the Cumberland dates back to the creation of the Army of the Ohio in November 1861, under the command of Brig. Gen. Robert Anderson. The army fought under the name Army of the Ohio until Maj. Gen. William S. Rosecrans assumed command of the army and the Department of the Cumberland and changed the name of the combined entity to the Army of the Cumberland. When Rosecrans assumed command, the army and the XIV were the same unit, divided into three "grand divisions" (wings) commanded by Alexander McCook (right wing), George H. Thomas (Center), and Thomas L. Crittenden (Left). The hardcover has some edge and corner wear with a few marks. Name written on the front endpaper and on the title pages. A few tiny marks here and there on the pages, the pages are a little tan, 289 pages long and the binding is firm. There are ten pages in the middle of the book that are detached.
