Description: The original hand signed 1861 “One Dollar” North Carolina note was issued from Raleigh. The serial number “9362” was also hand inscribed. The note has Minerva at left with small ship at center. During the Civil War the hoarding of copper, silver and gold (Hard Cash) resulted in little coinage in circulation. The only way to “make change” was to issue these type notes. The Battle of Bentonville (March 19 – 21, 1865) was fought in Johnston County, North Carolina, near the village of Bentonville. It was the last battle between the armies of Union Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman and Confederate Gen. Joseph E. Johnston. The battle scene was reprinted from an 1865 hand colored woodcut from Harper’s Weekly. Comes as shown mounted in a 8” x 12” Riker style case with glass front. All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original Civil War issue or as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About Collectors Frame”, below the reviews on the front page, for more information on the framing and artifacts.
