"The Southern Churchman" was an Episcopalian journal that began publication on Jan. 2, 1835, at Richmond, Virginia. It was published weekly, and had the motto: “Catholic For Every Truth of God. Protestant For Every Error of Man.” This small 1860 pamphlet was a collection of the editor of that publication on the Episcopal doctrine of "baptismal regeneration" which holds that the act of baptism is necessary for salvation. This idea is held by many denominations in Christianity. This pamphlet records the opinions of a number of priests as well as a conversation between the editor and Bishop (William) Whittingham who was the fourth Bishop of Maryland. COLPAP-0971-RT85
