Description: The American Gentleman’s Guide to Politeness and Fashion; Or, Familiar Letters to His Nephews, Containing Rules of Etiquette, Directions for the Formation of Characters, Etc., Illustrated by Sketches Drawn From Life of the Men and Manners of Our Times. By Henry Lunettes and published in New York by Derby & Jackson. 1860, 480 pp, 5.5x8’’, hardcover binding. In as-is condition. Covers and spine have age-related wear and toning that has caused discoloration. Corners of covers are bent inwards and have small tears. Edges of spine also have tears. Pages have toning and foxing throughout. The first few pages, including the title page, are detached. The last page is torn. Some pencil inscriptions from a previous owner. Hinges are loose in some areas, but pages remain attached and generally have good support throughout with the exception of the first few detached pages. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. This is an interesting look at how manners have differed from the second half of the nineteenth century to now. Lunette uses the life lessons he has given to his nephews to provide reasoning behind why a man should act they way they do. Could provide an opportunity for restoration, if desired. COLU1860AEFO
