Description: SUMPTUOUS TREATMENT OF THIS BIOGRAPHY OF JESUS CHRIST, ALONG WITH OTHER ESSAYS. Many versions of this underlying book can be found online, with what I believe to be the First Edition published in 1790. There is no date on this copy, but a very similar copy online with the same number of pages and additional sections was claimed to have been published in 1850. This copy, however, had a different publisher. A listed version by the same publisher of this copy, The London Printing and Publishing Company-Limited, with the same number of pages, was claimed to have been published "c. 1865". Finally, this copy has a BEAUTIFUL BOOKPLATE behind the front board which is dated, 1856. With all this information, I'll speculate on a date of publication of 1855. The fully title including all the additional sections is, "The Life of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ: Together with The Lives of His Holy Apostles and Evangelists. To which is added, Evidences of the Truth of Christianity, by Beilby Porteus; The Golden Grove; A Choice Manual of what is to be Believed, Practised and Prayed for by Jeremy Taylor. Meditations Upon the Lord's Prayer by Sir Matthew Hale and A Sermon on the Death of Christ by Rev. Hugh Blair." Published by The London Printing and Publishing Company-Limited. Overall in VERY GOOD CONDITION, with professional refurbishment of the leather boards including a securing of the full leather boards to the spine with use of binding tape, clean and sealing the leather. The spine titling is fully rubbed out, but the title indentation is seen and it is possible it could be brought back to life with a professional application of gilt. Original marble endpapers. xii, 787 pages, 52 BEAUTIFUL B&W ENGRAVED FULL-PAGE PLATES. Very minimal foxing, beautiful plates, clean large print on boxed two-column text.
