14mm (5/8") Side Glow Optical Fiber $3.00/foot

Description: This is New - Old Stock Side Glow Optical Cable made by Poly Optics in Australia. It consists of a 12mm (just under 1/2") polymerized acrylic gel core with a 1mm thick clear Poly jacket. The total diameter is 14mm (just under 5/8"). It has an amazing minimum bend radius of just under 3½" and it does not transmit any light in the infrared or ultraviolet range. It's brightness is optimized for 20' to 25' lengths (30' with a reflector at the dead end); 50' lengths do well with an illuminator on each end. The first 4 photos show a 50' length lit using an old 150W sign illuminator with a prism glass color wheel and a mirror at the dead end. There is a piece of tape wrapped around the fiber at 30' out from the illuminator (near the top of the photo). You will notice the color shifts towards green past about 25' or so. The next 3 photos show the same 50' length lit with a new 90W LED illuminator from the other end; you will notice the color remains truer. The 8th photo shows a 30' length with the 150W illuminator and a mirror on the dead end. The remainder of the photos show color blending on a 30' length using both illuminators, one at each end. This can, of course, be used in snow, ice and underwater but the core is mildly hydroscopic so it needs to be sealed at the end if it is exposed to water (the jacket is waterproof). It's service temperature range is from -40°F to +248°F. Please note: this is the cable only, no illuminator is included. Price shown is per foot. Please note: THERE IS A 10' MINIMUM.
