Results: WWF @ New York City, NY – Madison Square Garden – October 19, 1981 (18,120) Televised on the MSG Network and USA Network – featured Vince McMahon on commentary: Curt Hennig pinned Joe Cox with a sunset flip at 9:14 Tony Garea & Rick Martel defeated WWF Tag Team Champions Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito via disqualification at 11:44 when referee John Stanley stopped the bout for excessive double teaming of Garea after Martel was thrown to the floor Pedro Morales defeated WWF IC Champion Don Muraco at 18:46 when referee Jack Lotz stopped the bout due to Muraco’s bleeding (History of the Intercontinental Title) Dusty Rhodes pinned Ron Shaw at 1:28 with the Bionic Elbow WWF World Champion Bob Backlund fought Greg Valentine to a no contest at 19:32; Backlund scored the pin when Valentine fell over after putting Backlund in an airplane spin but dazed referee John Stanley gave the title to Valentine and raised his hand as the winner after Backlund’s leg knocked Stanley out during the airplane spin and Stanley thought Valentine had scored the pin, since both wore black tights; after the bout, several officials and NY State Athletic commissioners came to the ring and it was announced no decision would be rendered and the title would be held up pending further investigation; the title controversy was only a factor in NYC as Backlund continued to defend the title until the following month’s Texas Death Match rematch Pat Patterson pinned Angelo Mosca at 9:18 when Patterson lifted his shoulder out of a back suplex and bridge Dominic DeNucci & SD Jones defeated Jose Estrada & Johnny Rodz at 11:29 when Jones pinned Estrada with a sunset flip All American Wrestling – 10/30/83: Tony Atlas defeated Killer Khan via count-out at 9:49 when Khan walked out of the match after sustaining a gorilla press slam
