I cannot ship cards by Media Mail because, per the USPS regulations posted on their website, Media Mail contents are restricted to books, sound recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded computer-readable media. Devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus goes back many centuries, but in the mid-1800s a Carmelite nun in France named Sister Marie St. Pierre (Sr. Mary of St. Peter) received revelations from Jesus about His wish that the Devotion to His Holy Face be spread worldwide. He dictated special prayers to her that He wished people to say and offer to the Father along with His Holy Face, in reparation for the sins of the modern era. These revelations and prayers have received Church approval. Two of those prayers appear on the back of these prayer cards, along with a 1954 imprimatur from Cardinal Spellman. Pope Leo XIII approved a worldwide Archconfraternity of the Holy Face in 1885. It is still active today, headquartered in Tours, France. It is critical that as many people as possible make reparation to God for their sins and the sins of all, offering it in union with the infinite merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ. God has become extremely displeased with the human race, and in many apparitions Our Lady has spoken of a terrible chastisement which will befall us if people do not repent and do penance. It appears that we may well already be in the opening stages of that chastisement, which threatens to become much more severe. Promoting this devotion is a good step in the right direction. And of course, the daily Rosary is indispensable, as is the Five Saturdays devotion. The image on the front of these cards is from Veronica’s Veil, the veil from the 6th Station of the Cross, in which a pious woman wiped Our Lord’s Face, covered in His Precious Blood, sweat and spittle, as He carried His Cross to be crucified for us. The image of His Face was imprinted onto the cloth. That cloth is still kept in St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican, and although the image has over time become dark and indistinct, on January 6, 1849, the veil miraculously glowed and showed the Holy Face very clearly for several hours. Artists recorded the miraculous image in great detail, and thereafter until the early 20th century, several copies of the engravings were issued by the Vatican once a year. Before being distributed, each copy of the image from Veronica’s Veil was touched to the actual veil itself, a piece of the True Cross, and the lance that pierced Our Lord’s side. The image on the front of these prayer cards is a reproduction of one such Vatican-issued engraving that was owned by Leo Dupont, the “Apostle of the Holy Face.” Many miracles were reported in connection with it. Please have these cards blessed by a priest before you give them away or leave them in the back of a church (with the pastor’s permission, of course). Thank you.
